module can be fluid and the situations require constant
reassessment. If the situation looks like it could turn violent,
or if the employee appears to threaten him or herself – or
anyone else – again, call 9-1-1- immediately and then inform
your security office. You cannot reason with a person who is
out of control, and it is not your job to do so. Once your
security staff or the police arrive, the situation is in their
hands. Again remember! You do not have the right to detain
an employee. Only officially designated law enforcement
and security officers can do so. Even though you may ask
the employee to remain in your office – or other private space
– until he or she can be transported to the collection facility,
you cannot detain an employee against his or her will, nor
should an employee perceive that he or she is being
detained against his or her will.
