licensed and specially trained physician before they are
reported to the employer. This physician is knowledgeable
about substance abuse disorders and has the appropriate
medical training to interpret and evaluate all positive test
results, together with an individual's medical history and
other biomedical information and is called a Medical Review
Officer or M-R-O. If the test is positive, the M-R-O will
contact the employee and conduct an interview to determine
if there is an alternative medical explanation for the drugs
found in the urine. For example, the employee may be using
prescribed medication. If the M-R-O determines that the use
of the drug is legitimate, the drug test result will be reported
as negative to the employer.
