<strong><em>Le Festival de la Francophonie</em> / FrenchWorldFest</strong> goes virtual this year… so you can enjoy food, culture and films from around the world from the comfort of your <em>maison!</em><br>

For those who will miss the Kick-Off evening, we offer <strong>FrancoFun Food</strong> demonstrations throughout the month of March given by our friends from Belgium, Canada, France, Quebec, Romania, Switzerland and Vietnam. Cook along with them and stay to ask questions about the customs and cuisines of each country!<br>

Join us for a tour des Alliances hosted live by rapper <strong>Webster</strong> on <strong>Saturday March 20th, Journée internationale de la francophonie</strong> — and don’t forget to check the special film selection offered by <strong>Matt Jackson</strong>, your Sunday Ciné-Club host!<br>

<em>SUISSE</em> : La raclette<br>
<br>
Our friends les Suisses tell you how to pull off this popular dish involving melted cheese, potatoes and pickles from your own kitchen with a live demonstration by Chef Johann Lustenberger.<br>

Stay after the demonstration and ask the Swiss team anything you always wanted to know about banks, chocolate, watches or...how is it possible to speak 4 languages in such a small country?<br>

<em>Au menu:</em><br>

Prep time: 10 mintes<br>
Cook time: 13 minutes<br>
Total time: 23 minutes<br>
<br>
Equipment: Oven with broiler, pot for cooking potatoes, baking tray for broiling the raclette, cutting Board<br>
<br>
<strong>THE INGREDIENTS</strong><br>
(For 1 serving) <br>
<br>
2 oz of Raclette Cheese (available at WholeFoods) <br>
2 medium to small red skin potatoes<br>
2 Cornichons<br>
2 Cocktail Onions<br>
Paprika Powder <br>
<br>
Boil 2 medium to small sized potatoes in pot with water<br>
Preheat Oven broiler 400F<br>
Cut cooked potatoes in half - <strong>do not peel</strong> and put on a baking tray<br>
Cut 1/4” slices of Raclette cheese approximately the same size as each half of the potatoes and lay it on top of the potatoes<br>
Place under the pre-heated broiler until cheese has melted<br>
Place the "Raclette" (potatoes with melted Cheese) on a serving plate<br>
Sprinkle some Paprika on top<br>
Garnish with Cornichons & Cocktail Onions<br>

<strong><em>La Francophonie</em></strong> is a concept which was born of an understanding and appreciation of the fact that, owing to history, the French language is spoken by <strong>300 million people</strong> across <strong>5 continents</strong>. It is a celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity, promoting democracy, human rights and peace. The <em>Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF)</em> is the entity which embodies the values of <em>la Francophonie,</em> seeking to promote the French language, francophone culture, as well as developing economic cooperations among its 88 member states and governments.<br>

The Alliance Française de Chicago shares this mission; as a French-speaking organization, we seek to engage as many individuals as possible with the French language and cultures of francophone nations.<br>
<br>
<strong>La Francophonie</strong> est née de la compréhension et de l'appréciation du fait que la langue française est parlée par <strong>300 millions</strong> de personnes sur les 5 continents. C'est une célébration de la diversité linguistique et culturelle, qui fait la promotion de la démocratie, des droits de l'homme et de la paix.<br>

In March 2020, the coronavirus pandemic forced us to cancel all in-person events and classes at the Alliance. While not always easy, we have come into our own in a new online environment. The Festival de la Francophonie will be virtual this year, which means that you can enjoy francophonie food, culture and film from all around from the comfort of your maison.<br>
