A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

May 30, 2017

Dear Members and Friends of the Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago,

The Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago will be 145 years old this year.
It has shared an extraordinary history with the City of Chicago which is a feat that
few organizations can lay claim to.

During all these years, it has never failed its mission which is equally
extraordinary. The annual reports from past and present depict a complete and
transparent account of all the activities that reflect the Society's accomplishments
moving forward in the 21st century.

We, the President, officers and Board members, are very proud to be able to
highlight our achievements. For example, with a limited budget of $43,910 for
Education, we were able to give 4 merit scholarships, 19 undergraduate
scholarships, 11 stays at Concordia Village, and also $1,000 to help PianoForte
offer lessons to underprivileged children. In short, we covered a lot of terrain with
these truncated funds. The same holds true for the Culture Committee. We
sponsored 10 events with $8,500 and were even able to send an artist
representing Chicago to Lucerne for the Chicago Sister City International Program.

As for the benefactions, we continue to allocate funds for the traditional monthly
luncheons for our senior citizens which also allows us to check on them and see if
somebody needs help.

Even though our funds have not produced any significant uptick in our portfolio, I
want to extend our sincere gratitude to the members who, last year, were able to
procure $8,500 for the SBS. This campaign was a resounding success, and the
donors should be applauded for their contribution.

I hope that readers will acknowledge that we are trying our best to bolster our
mission which in turn will continue to cement our ongoing affection for our Swiss
origins.

To all my deepest appreciation,
Marie-Simone Pavlovich, Ph.D.
President
