EDUCATION COMMITTEE

OVERVIEW

Welcome to the homepage of the Education Committee of the Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago. Here you will find information on scholarship programs, application forms, names of the winners of current scholarship awards, and our activity reports. Our committee awards scholarship money to a variety of students in the greater Chicago area. The scholarships are meant to make a difference in the life of our young people by helping them reach their dreams and goals. Here is a thank-you note from one student:

"With the end of the semester quickly approaching I just want to thank you so much for awarding me your scholarship. It is a great honor and I truly appreciate the financial assistance to my studies" SZ

"Please accept my thanks for your generosity in granting me one of your scholarships. I am humbled and honored to be selected as a recipient and I appreciate your financial support to help me achieve my academic goals...the substantial rise in the cost of college tuitions makes efforts like those of the Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago extremely important. I sincerely appreciate your investment not only in my studies but in other award recipients' as well" RAH

"My child Grace just finished her 2 week German camp experience. I just wanted to say thank you for the scholarship which provided her an experience, we as her parents could not have provided. When we picked her up, both myself and my husband commented on how happy she looked. We live about 13 hours away from the camp and for 13 hours we heard about how "awesome" it was." KS

Currently, we support three very different scholarship areas:

Undergraduate College Support Scholarships: The Undergraduate College Support Scholarships provide financial support for college education to student of Swiss descent.

Language Immersion Scholarships: Language Immersion Scholarships allow students to learn either German, French, or Italian by participating in a one-week language immersion experience at the Concordia Language Villages at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Merit Scholarships: Merit Scholarships support highly qualified, low-income students with plans to study at a four-year college. We work with George Westinghouse Preparatory School, Lane Tech High School, and Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy in Chicago.

Application forms are available on this website. For questions about the scholarships, contact the Education Committee.
