Communications

Our proprietary design will enable you to experience the Ethernet technology alongside CAN technology for distributed control applications. There is no question that Ethernet is the de facto standard when connecting to personal computers. However, as the amount of data from the field increases, a further step in industrial control and process automation is to combine the CAN and Ethernet networking technologies. You can connect our PRPCs in the Telco cabinet and the factory floor to our Power Manger software to communicate globally.

This connectivity allows for real-time communication of metrics and diagnostics along with facilitation of analysis and planning, ultimately enabling managers to monitor all points on factory floors from anywhere on the globe.

A Network That Expands as You Do

Your PRPC will provide you with highly secure and scalable capabilities. We have chose CAN (Control Area Network) as the communications protocol for providing scalability for the PRPC’s. CAN (Control Area Network) provide true scalability with superior EMI shielding. It offers high-speed communication rates and data sharing with fast response times. You can stack as many as 150 PRPC’s in a single room at a distance beyond 160 meters. In addition, the error confinement and detection features make it more reliable in noise critical environments. It requires no configuration. Each PRPC becomes an active module with its own address and configuration. Updates change of status within 1-mSec. Your PRPC has a two CAN connection in the back.

Controller Area Network (CAN)

The CAN is a serial interface, useful for communication to other PRPC devices a well as CAN devices, and is designed to operate within noisy environments. The PRPC can support CAN1.2, CAN 2.0A, CAN 2.0B Passive and CAN2.0B active versions of the protocol. It can communicate up to 1Mbit/sec.

In most cases the CAN bus requires termination. The PRPC can be programmed to terminate the bus and can operate in seven modes. The PRPC has two CAN buses: CAN (PSCAN) and Device CAN (DCAN).

The PSCAN bus is used only for PRPC communications. All PRPC units communicate to one another through the PSCAN bus. This allows a user to control more than 100 PRPC units from a PS2 port of only one device. It also allows more than 100 PRPC units to be remotely controlled from one Ethernet, RS232 or phone line. A host can connect to just one PRPC unit and communicate/control more than 100 units attached the PSCAN bus.

The DCAN bus is used for communicating to CAN devices. The user or Host can program the PRPC unit to send messages to a CAN device after an event or condition has occurred. The PRPC unit can also, be programmed to allow direct communication from Host to a CAN device. The Host can communicate from Ethernet, a Phone line, or RS232.

The user or Host can program the 2800 unit to send messages to an RS232 device after an event or condition has occurred. The 2800 unit can also, be programmed to allow direct communication from Host to a RS232 device. The Host can communicate from Ethernet, a Phone line, or the main RS232 port.
