This remarkable apartment on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is the result of a very creative, fluid exchange of ideas between designer, artist and client.

From the original brainstorming sessions, through the production of one of a kind prototypes and meticulous execution of those finishes and concepts, it was a wondrous aesthetic transformation.

The three rooms shown below exemplify our contribution to this artistic collaboration.

Sitting Room

This vibrant room features an exclusively designed texture of Venetian plaster in a cinnabar hue on all walls, subtle metallic leaf in silver on doorways and wainscoting and an opulent combination of trompe l’oeil tortoise shell, silver and ebony on the important Art Deco crown moulding.

Adjacent to the Sitting Room and continuing with the rich combination of crown moulding and millwork, the living room walls are crafted as a cross-hatch texture in hues of silver and pearl, simultaneously providing warmth and spark.
Towards one end of the room a set of columns and soffit provide a focal point with a hand hammered graphite finish, adding structure and contrast to the space.

From the start the cast and character of the room were inspired by a specific caramel hue in one of our studio’s favorite finishes, the “Flemish Background”.
Painted entirely from artist’s oils softly blended together onto the walls, the smooth painterly effect is stunning and luminous.
In this case it also served as a vibrant and sophisticated background to the owner’s exquisite collection of contemporary photographs and tribal artwork.
