Last week we had the chance to slip away for a couple afternoons from the “grown-up” art world of the studio to spend time again with the RefugeeOne after-school kids painting Valentines.
This time is special to us and the kids created a wonderful array of colorful multi-media artwork.<br><br>
We set up an art contest for them, to design a studio Valentine, and it was quite the challenge to choose from them.
Their artwork was fun and refreshing.
They all deserved prizes!<br><br>
RefugeeOne is an outstanding organization and we are happy to support them again this year.
They are the largest refugee resettlement agency in Illinois.
They create opportunity for refugees fleeing war, terror, and persecution to build new lives of safety, dignity, and self-reliance.<br><br>
Every year, RefugeeOne serves more than 2,500 refugees and immigrants of all ages, ethnic groups, faiths, and backgrounds.
Their primary focus is to assist these resilient individuals in becoming an independent, self-supporting member of their new community.
RefugeeOne walks alongside refugees from the moment they land at O’Hare International Airport - welcoming them to Chicago and providing furnished apartments, English classes, job search support, mental health care, youth programs, and mentors to help them adjust to life in the U.S.
Their ultimate goal is to help refugees become self-reliant in as few as 6-9 months.<br><br>
Throughout the school year, young refugees participate in a lively after-school program.
Youth receive one-on-one homework help, do arts and crafts, play sports, participate in community service projects, learn about health and nutrition, take field trips and enjoy special events.<br><br>
We are grateful to be able to participate in this outstanding organization.
