The conference emphasizes the physics of materials at high static and dynamic pressures including current research in shock compression. The five days will be filled with oral presentations, poster sessions, and discussions by a multi-disciplinary group of international scientists. The topics include mechanical behavior of materials, equation of state of hydrogen and deuterium, shock induced phase changes, numerical methods in shock wave processes, static high pressure research, detonation physics and energetic materials, and experimental techniques.
One of the highlights of the conference will be the presentation of the Shock Compression Award to W.J. Nellis and A. Mitchell from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for their work on the equation of state of liquids over the past 25 years and most recently producing metallic hydrogen using shock wave techniques.
