<P>
The ballots for the Topical Group on Shock Compression of Condensed Matter
election were counted on 22 Dec 1997 by Jerry Forbes and Paul Urtiew.  A
total of 129 envelopes were received.  Two envelopes were not signed and,
therefore, not counted.  The results of the election are:

Datta Dandekar was elected Vice-Chair.

<P>
J. Michael Boteler was elected Secretary/Treasurer.

<P>
Michael Furnish and Gerrit Sutherland were elected to the Executive
Committee.
