<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C">Some see Cloud Computing as a new phenomenon. However, Cloud Computing is not a new
concept but a constantly evolving paradigm. For the most part, Cloud Computing has
its beginnings in Parallel, Grid and Utility computing. Grid and Parallel Computing
are the true forerunners to the Cloud Computing model. For the most part, Grid, and
Parallel computing give us glimspe into the ways in which we've used IT technology
and compute muscle to solve problems. Each evolving paradigm is invisable to the
average person but has made huge contributions to our way of life. Parallel computing
is the simultaneous use of multiple compute resources to solve a computational problem</span></p>

<div id="txt_221" style="position:absolute; left:17px; top:240px; width:675px; height:362px;-moz-box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-box-sizing:border-box;box-sizing:border-box; overflow:hidden;">
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C">Cloud Computing technology can conform to many different service models. It can be
used to deliver a plethora of services. Any unique instance of cloud computing can
be configured to provide many different types of services. Generally, most end-<wbr>users
typically utilize software as a service, development teams leverage platform as a
service and IT departments normally utilize infrastructure as a service. Services
such as: Storage as a service (Saas), Testing (Taas), Security (Secaas), Database
(Daas), Monitoring/management (Maas), Communications, content and computing (Caas),
Identity (Idaas), Backup (Baas), Desktop (Daas), Software (Saas), Infrastructure
(Iaas), Application (Aaas), Platform (Paas), Enterprise (Eaas), Everything (Eaas),
etc, are just a few of the common terms used for services within the cloud community.
NIST provides a description for three distinct service models. Almost all of the
services provided by cloud computing fit into three basic service models: </span></p>
<ul class="Body-P0">
<li class="Body-P1"><span class="Body-C">Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS). The CSP provide applications to the user. Applications
are accessible from various client devices through a thin client interface such as
a web browser (e.g., web-<wbr>based email). In the service model the consumer does not
manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers,
operating systems, storage, or critical configuration components. In this model the
user can change limited user-<wbr>specific application configuration settings. </span></li><li class="Body-P1"><span class="Body-C">Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS). The capability provided to the consumer is to
deploy onto the cloud infrastructure consumer-<wbr>created or acquired applications created
using programming languages and tools supported by the CSP. The user does not manage
or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating
systems, or storage, but has control over the deployed applications and possibly
application hosting environment configurations. </span></li><li class="Body-P1"><span class="Body-C">Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The capability provided to the consumer
is to provision processing, storage, networks, and other fundamental computing resources
where the consumer is able to deploy and run arbitrary software, which can include
operating systems and applications. The user does not manage or control the underlying
cloud infrastructure but has control over operating systems; storage, deployed applications,
and possibly limited control of select networking components (e.g., host firewalls).</span></li></ul>
</div>
<div id="txt_222" style="position:absolute; left:19px; top:611px; width:676px; height:582px;-moz-box-sizing:border-box;-webkit-box-sizing:border-box;box-sizing:border-box; overflow:hidden;">
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C">Players in the healthcare industry must seriously consider regulatory controls surrounding
data privacy, security, data integrity, authenticity, and confidentiality. Very few
people are aware that regulatory requirements govern technical development, management
and procedural controls in the Cloud. Regulations determine how information and
data flow through and are processed by the cloud. For most of us regulatory requirements
are invisible. We tend to assume that the manufacturer of cloud devices and software
services has built security into the each device and application. We assume because
the components are secure then the whole is secure. Most people feel that all we
need to do is assemble the parts, and bingo, the Cloud is ready to process personal
and private information. One of the weaknesses of the cloud is that security and
data privacy aren't equal. Just because your cloud is secure from accessibility
or role perspective does not mean that the flow of personal information and private
information is controlled and traceable. Regional and international data restrictions
that govern identification and traceability and flow of information must be engineered
into your cloud framework. Most architects assumed that role based accessibility
requirements should be enough. If the user is identified then the network is secure.
Today's regulatory framework is a little more complex. It requires that cloud typologies
take into considerations regional and international nuances governing the processing
and sharing of information. </span></p>
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C">I get it! Your cloud is secure. No one can access personal or private data without
proper authorization. Personal and private data is located in a secure location that's
only accessible by senior administrators. The administrators have privileges to backup
and archive information into a secure location. A few questions maybe:</span></p>
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C"> </span></p>
<ul class="Body-P2">
<li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Does the migration of data to this location violate regional and international data
requirements? </span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Is this location accessible to regulatory authorities within a reasonable period
of time?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Do requirements dictate that copies of this data be located onsite?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Is this process qualified, or validated?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Are there procedures in place defining this process?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Does this violate any SLAs?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Are any performance, monitoring logs (security, performance, access, etc), auditing,
recording being collected, assessed, stored and transferred? </span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Are pedigrees being provide for access to the information?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Is the retention periods satisfied?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Are different systems validated?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Where is the data processed?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Where was the data originated?</span></li><li class="Body-P3"><span class="Body-C">Will informed consent follow personal information?</span></li></ul>
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C"> </span></p>
<p class="Body-P"><span class="Body-C">Regulations help to promulgate cloud computing acceptance more than anything else.
Sure the cloud is a great idea but, how would you feel about having a secure data
transaction with no policy restrictions on how the information will be used, or someone
using the cloud to collect your private information but was not subject to technical
or procedural controls or restrictions about where and how your personal data will
be used. If Cloud Computing cannot be designed to meet regulatory requirements then
it would cease to be seen as a safe vehicle to exchange information. The need for
data privacy, security, data integrity, authenticity, and confidentiality is greater
than the need for reduce cost. Nobody wants to use a cloud computing network that's
secure but not compliant. </span></p>
