Just today I called the Service Manager<br>at our local Mercury dealer (not where I bought the used car from) and he<br>said he would do a 30 minute exploration for $45 and he expected repair<br>would be around 2 to 3 hundred dollars. (no promises of course!)<br><br>Ours moves about a half-inch each way - as if a plastic gear tooth broke off<br>and jammed the drive. Fortunately it is stuck in the "out" position which<br>is how my wife needs it, - and it is her car. I drive it when we go on long<br>trips, but a short trip with me driving yesterday did not seem too bad when<br>I moved the seat back a little farther.<br><br>It really is a shame that companies that sell cars with known "likely" early<br>maintenance failures don't stand behind them. That part probably cost Ford<br>$50.<br><br>Your input has convinced me not to place myself in harms way and end up with<br>the $625 situation you describe.<br><br>Thanks for being there and responding, even though you knew there was<br>nothing in it for you. I believe the unit is sold as an<br>assembly from Ford.
