<p>The 20th International Workshop was held at the suggestion of US Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow in Moscow and brought together high-level international experts from government, academia, and industry. Russian speakers included First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science, and Technology Dr. Andrey Fursenko, Deputy Speaker of the Duma Dr. Vladimir Lukin, Duma member Dr. Grigory Yavlinsky, Kurchatov Institute Director Dr. Evgeny Velikhov, Director of the Institute of the USA and Canada at the Academy of Sciences Dr. Serguey Rogov, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations at the Academy of Sciences Dr. Vladimir Baranovsky, President of Boeing Russia/CIS Serguey Kravchenko, and President and CEO of the IBS group Anatoly Karachinsky. Speakers from the US , Europe , or other Eastern European* countries included former Supreme Allied Commander Europe General George Joulwan, </p>
<p>Chair of the UK House of Commons Defense Committee the Rt Hon Bruce George, House of Commons member the Rt Hon Michael Portillo, Austrian National Assembly member Dr. Werner Fasslabend, French Air Force Chief of Staff General Richard Wolsztynski, Italian Secretary of National Defense Admiral Giampaolo di Paola, Director General of EU Military Staff Lieutenant General Rainer Schuwirth, former German Chief of Defense General Klaus Naumann, Belgian Ambassador to the UN Jean de Ruyt, German Ambassador to Russia Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz, Romanian Defense Minister Ioan Pascu, Lithuanian Defense Minister Linas Linkevicius, former Polish Defense Minister Janusz Onyszkiewicz, Slovakian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ivan Korcok, Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Security Policy Alexandr Vondra, Indian Deputy National Security Advisor Satish Chandra, Director for International Cooperation in the Office of the US Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition Alfred Volkman, Director of Information Assurance Robert Lentz, and former US Ambassador to Russia and Boeing Senior Vice President Thomas Pickering. </p>
<p>Under the umbrella of global security, discussions covered a range of topics such as the causes of terrorism, deterrence against non-state actors, the new roles of Russia and Asia and the importance of the information technology and other sectors, information technology/network centric operations, the security implications of energy and natural resources, commercial aviation and space, and the roles of Russia and Asia . The Workshop took place on 27-30 June 2003 at the Marriott Grand Hotel. </p>
