It all started with an idea to do "something" with the meadow. Then we found <a href="http://www.aquascapedesigns.com/"> Aquascapes</a>. </p> <p>With some vague ideas in mind for a site that was right off the south facing deck, but close to some excellent shade trees and the water line from the well, I posed a few questions to several of Aquascapes' vendors. I wrote the notes at night (about 10pm) and by midnight <a href="mailto:[email protected]">Tony Burnett</a> had e-mailed me back AND included a complete list of things i should and could buy to aid in the project. Tony is the <a href="http://www.pondscapedesigns.com">Pondscape</a> supervisor and has been with me every step of the way. They are just the best and I would advise anyone looking to do their own thing to buy from Pondscapes!!!!</p> <p>You see this is a "Harry Homeowner" project and I'm doing all the work my self. The pond is 14' * 21' with about 40' of stream and pools. 1-2 hours a day, with the odd week off for a business trip or waiting for the rain to dry out and I'm nearly done!</p> <p align="center"><font color="#FF00FF"><b><i>C</i></b><i><b>lick on each of the thumbnails for <br> a bigger picture - then use the <br> 'back' button on your browser to return</b></i></font></p> <p>The project started with a garden hose and an idea.<a href="pond.h2.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h1.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h2.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a> The site was not sloped towards or away from the house, but sloped from right to left. The place where we put the Biofalls was in the woods, about a 5' drop to the bottom of the lowest level in the pond.</p> <p>So then I dug. <a href="pond.h4.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h3.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h4.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a> As you can see lots of hand tools were used. I also have a Troybuilt tractor with a box scraper and that helped along the way.</p> <p>You can see the path out that the tractor left. <a href="pond.h6.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h5.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h6.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a> That had to be filled in in the end!</p> <p>A few business trips and one for school and then it finally looked like a pond with some levels. You can also see the beginnings of the "entry waterfall" and the "serenity pool" on the upper right of the picture <font face="Wingdings">F</font> <a href="pond.h8.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h7.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h8.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a> There was a lot of head scratching as I sometimes got confused about depth, but it all worked out in the end.</p> <p>As you can see i found a few rocks in the process! <a href="pond.h10.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h9.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h10.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>Then came liner day, i actually had a friend over to help with the effort. <a href="pond.h12.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h11.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h12.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a></p> <p>This is the pond with the "wall rocks" installed. <a href="pond.h14.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h13.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h14.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a> </p> <p>Here's a close up of the entry waterfall...........................................................<a href="pond.h16.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h15.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h16.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a></p> <p>This is the Biofalls rocked in...<a href="pond.h18.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h17.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h18.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a></p> <p>and the skimmer......................................................................<a href="pond.h20.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h19.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h20.jpg" width="100" height="75"></a></p> <p>A few more rocks and some gravel - so far all the stone has been hand dug from this Bull Run Mountain plot of land. Today i bought 3 tons of 3/4" River Wash stone and it will be delivered 9/2/02 for finishing landscaping, but it rained a few days ago and filled the pond past the second level so I put a little pump in and started flowing Water! What a joy! <a href="pond.h22.jpg"> <img border="2" src="pond.h21.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h22.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>Here's the skimmer plumbed and electrified.....<a href="pond.h24.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h23.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h24.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>The Biofalls and stream.........................................................................<a href="pond.h26.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h25.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h26.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>The upper stream...<a href="pond.h28.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h27.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h28.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>The serenity pool...............................................<a href="pond.h30.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h29.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h30.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p>and a look back towards the house. We're going to have the deck extended down to the pond by some professionals and that will be really nice!<a href="pond.h32.jpg"><img border="2" src="pond.h31.jpg" xthumbnail-orig-image="pond.h32.jpg" width="100" height="66"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>And then there was video. Ain't nothing like sound to make a pond a pond!</p> <p>I've got four mpeg clips. Each on has the size so if you're on a slow modem it might take a while.</p> <p><a href="1%20bio%20falls.mpg">the waterfall</a> (1.6 meg) </p> <p><a href="2%20stream.mpg">the stream</a> (2.9 meg) </p> <p><a href="3%20serenity%20pool.mpg">the serenity pool</a> (1.9 meg) </p> <p><a href="4%20pond.mpg">the pond</a> (1.8 meg) </p> <p>Comments are welcomed, but please don't tell me to start over.
