<p>Let's get real here. Assessment centers are being used in more and more
departments for evaluating a candidate's fitness for promotion. After your
organization pays the consultant to develop a <em><strong>validated</strong></em> process
you often have to take the test several times before you figure out for what they are
looking. The main purpose of a validated process is to ensure that your organization
does not get sued after the test.</p>
<p>This is a nine week program offered in the comfort of your home (or station), over the
internet, that will reveal the murky details of the assessment center process. The
process is <strong><em>asynchronous</em></strong>, in that it is not conducted in real
time. Each week will start on Monday and end on Sunday and you'll be able to do your
work whenever you time suits you during the week. </p>
<p>The program will involve several "assignments" and allow you to practice
skills evaluated by your organization that reflect your readiness to perform according to
several "<strong><em>management and leadership dimensions</em></strong>" that
are built into one or more promotion process activities.</p>
<p>As I was finishing up my Masters at <em><strong>The George Washington University</strong></em>
in Educational Technology Leadership, it dawned on me that fire departments, in general,
are doing a crappy job preparing folks to pass an assessment center. If anything
there is a training program that tells you about the process and only takes an hour.
That's just not enough! (I see your heads nodding agreement right now)</p>
<p>Since I retired from the Prince William County (VA) Department of Fire and Rescue, I've
assisted in the development of two residential programs at the National Fire Academy in
Emmitsburg that look very much like assessment center training programs. Many of you
can't get to Maryland for these successful programs so I've been working this past year on
a way to get the programs to you, and this is it.</p>
<p>This will be no free ride. You'll get out of it what you put into it. But
the hard work will be worth the effort. The training will consist of reading from
the course text, weekly "active learning" activities, your responses in a class
discussion forum that reinforce learning, small class size so you get individual
attention, and you'll be able to get to practice, practice, practice! You will need
to commit to about three hours each week more or less.</p>
<p align="center">Cost</p>
<p>This program can literally add thousands of dollars to your annual income. The
introductory price is $499 per student, with Group Department discounts available for
groups of 6 or more. There is also a 10% discount available to active members of the
<em><strong>International Association of Fire Fighters.</strong></em></p>
<p>If your current job has you filling in for your boss on occasion, the IRS also will
allow you to deduct the full amount of the training (if you itemize) as an activity you
