The MORSS was held this year at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and Don "lived" at the cabin at the Free Methodist Campground in Spencerville Maryland for the week, through Saturday, the 16th of June. He opened the cabin, flushing the antifreeze from the water system and got it ready for Marti to visit.
From there he flew to Tucson, on his way back to Hawaii, to spend Father's Day with Mom and Dad in Green Valley. He returned to Hawaii on Monday, 18 June.
On Wednesday, the 20th of June, after two wonderful days together, Marti left for Maryland, where she planned to spend a month visiting and attending a women's Christian Retreat in Washington D.C., go to the beach at Ocean City with Lisa and Marti's niece, and then spend a week at Family Camp at the campground. The plan at that time was for her to return to Hawaii on the 20th of July.
Well, not so fast!!!! In mid-July, Don got orders to return to Washington, D.C. to attend a training course for a new theater-level model that's being built to assist military analysts in assessing war plans - a two week stint ------ soooooooo. We decided that Marti would remain in Maryland for an additional week, until Don's arrival on the 28th of July - one day late for our anniversary (of course we celebrated it anyway) - and Marti remained for another two weeks at the cabin while Don attended classes by day. Both of us worked on getting the cabin scraped and painted before we left to return to Hawaii on the 12th of August.
All in all -- it was a great summer. Marti really enjoyed spending time with the grand kids, Lisa and other friends and relatives throughout the summer. The time at the beach (two separate trips, in fact) and several weeks at the campground filled her need to see Maryland. Hopefully that will last until next summer.
We're back in Hawaii now, basking - as they say - in the exotic tropical environment. The yard is shaping up, albeit slowly, as we put in retaining walls, ponds, grass, and exotic tropical plants (we now have seven different kinds of palm trees in the yard). By the end of the summer (which I think is sometime in 2012) we should have grass covering the entire 4000 square feet of red dirt and have numerous Koi swimming liesurely in the triple-level ponds (pictures later - I have to build them first).
That's what we did this summer. If you had an exciting event that isn't described here on the website, send us a note and we'll publish it.
God Bless You!
Don and Marti

Last Update: 8/16/01
Web creator: Red Pen, Inc.
Copyright ©1999-2001 - by the Theune Family -- ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
