<p><img src="images/irkutsk_appeal_3.jpg" alt="Sludianskiy Baby Home" name="Sludianskiy Baby Home" width="150" height="205" border="0" align="left">Irkutsk branch of the "Russian Children’s Fund" (IRCF) was established over 20 years ago in 1988. It is a leading charity in the Siberian and Far Eastern Regions of Russia. IRCF is a reputable dynamic public organization, and it runs 20 social programs in the region. They work closely with local media to promote its programs and to voice the needs of orphans. Tatiana Bodrova has recommended this organization to RCWS.</p>
<p>The <nobr>long-term</nobr> goal of the IRCF is to provide disadvantaged children with necessary professional skills and to prepare them for independent life. For example, in spring of 2007 the organization purchased 6 colonies of honeybees for one of the orphanages in the Irkutsk Region. As a result, all senior students of the orphanage mastered beekeeping and all young children are looking forward to this nutritious product. Also, the surplus of honey will create extra income for the orphanage. In 2009, IRCF raised funds to install 15 athletic playgrounds at local orphanages.</p>
<p>Irkutsk Russian Children’s Foundation is applying for a $10,000 grant on behalf of the Sludiansky Specialized Orphanage to improve living conditions, hygiene, comfort level and health of small children who reside there. This orphanage is located 125 km from Irkutsk. Currently, the Sludiansky Specialized Orphanage houses 107 <img src="images/irkutsk_appeal.jpg" alt="Sludyanskiy_babyhome" width="172" height="250" border="0" align="right">children with psychological disorders from birth to 7 years of age. The orphanage facility was not renovated during the last 30 years. The orphanage old playground was demolished due to the old age and bad working condition.</p>
<p>Due to the financial crisis, the Russian government decreased funding to children’s institutions. Currently, the Sludiansky Specialized orphanage does not have money to cover diapers, personal hygiene items, towels, detergent, etc. Often children cannot go for a walk due to the shortage of clothing and shoes. The orphanage urgently needs to replace pillows, blankets, mattresses, diaper changing tables for children. Unfortunately, there are no funds in a budget to purchase baby carriages that would allow for disabled children to go outside for a walk. The orphanage needs to replace furniture in children’s rooms. Children are dreaming about new toys, developmental and video games.</p>
<p>The IRCF is planning to organize an official opening/celebration of the carpenter’s workshop at the orphanage and invite local media to cover the event.</p>
<p>Children at this orphanage have a lot of spare time, especially during their summer break. The baby carriages and playground will be used by several generations of children.</p>
<p class="column">IRCF has over 300 partners and supporters in the region. RCWS awarded several grants to orphanages and children’s organizations in Irkutsk region via the IRCF (Lesogorodsky orphanage — <strong>$3,501</strong> in 2007 and Center "Romashka" — <strong>$7,000</strong> in 2007).</p>
