<p><img src="images/pushkin3.jpg" alt="pushkin_school" name="pushkin_school" width="308" height="210" border="0" align="left">The Pushkin School was established in 1996 and currently provides supplementary education for 400 students from 6 to 17 years of age. This includes one class of orphans and children without parental care. Most of the children are from <nobr>low-income</nobr> families and some of them are orphans.</p>
<p>The Pushkin School is located in Novomoskovsk — a remote area amongst chemical plants and factories. It claims the unfortunate special status of being a city affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear explosion. Many of its residents, including the children, have weak immune systems and tire easily.</p>
<p>The Pushkin School is the first educational institution that provides <nobr>in-depth</nobr> exploration of Pushkin’s poetry and novels in addition to the educational curriculum mandated by the state. The goal of the school<img src="images/pushkin2.jpg" alt="pushkin_school" name="pushkin_school" width="229" height="170" border="0" align="right"> is to help children develop their talents and values based on Pushkin’s spiritual and ethical heritage. With the help of RCWS, the school hopes to publish its first research book highlighting its educational approach and innovative curriculum.</p>
<p>Students and teachers at the Pushkin School receive accolades for academic excellence, outstanding instruction, performing arts and creative writing. However, despite its success, the school lacks financial and other support from the state. The Government pays only teachers’ salaries; it does not fund books, repairs, supplies or other expenses.</p>
<p>The Pushkin School applied for a $10,000 grant to support children’s activities and field trips related to their study of Pushkin, as well as some operational expenses. With the help of RCWS, the school is able to send the brightest and most talented children to participate in top Pushkin festivals and organize two Pushkin tours for all remaining children at the school.</p>

<p class="column">RCWS had supported Pushkin school with the following grants:<br/><strong>$600</strong> in 2000, <strong>$600</strong> in 2001, <strong>$5,000</strong> in 2003, <strong>$12,460</strong> in 2004, <strong>$10,000</strong> in 2005, <strong>$8,000</strong> in 2006, <strong>$12,000</strong> in 2007.<br/>All reports have been submitted.</p>
