<h1 id="pagetitle">Nikolo-Solbinsky Convent/Children’s Shelter</h1><br/>

<p><img src="/projects/images/nikolo_solb.jpg" alt="nikolo_solbinsky shelter" name="nikolo_solb" width="273" height="225" border="0" align="left"><nobr>Nikolo-Solbinsky</nobr> Convent is located in the Dmitrovskoye Village of the Yaroslavl Region. In January 2008, the convent opened its first shelter for girls, which is the only facility of this kind in the entire region. It provides girls not only with food, clothes, and medical treatment, but also with secondary and professional education. Special emphasis is made on children’s involvement in the fine and performing arts.<br />
The shelter’s Director, Mother Irotiida, is known as someone who is <nobr>whole-heartedly</nobr> committed to improving children’s lives. She is convinced that the shelter’s employees can help these girls develop all the necessary skills to become strong independent individuals as well as nurturing and caring mothers. The shelter comes highly recommended by Galina Estifeeva, the regional coordinator for the RCWS scholarship program in Yaroslavl and the head of Friends of Russian Orphans.</p>
<p>A year ago, a group<img src="/projects/images/nikolo_solb2.jpg" alt="nikolo_solbinsky shelter" name="nikolo_solb" width="264" height="210" border="0" align="right"> of children from one of the Yaroslavl orphanages visited the convent and enjoyed this experience. Since then, children have been visiting the convent on a regular basis; they have also hosted children from the convent’s shelter at their orphanage. During these visits, girls from the convent performed a variety of skits for the other children (from the local orphanage), who were thrilled by the experience.</p>
<p>Mother Irotiida requested a $3,070 grant to support the theatre program of the girl’s shelter. Since the theater program was established at the convent, the girls participated in various festivals and holiday celebrations. Recently, the girls performed a concert for the Victory Day celebration in May. With a grant from RCWS, the shelter is able to continue its theater program and stage a new play called «The Old Tale or Adventures in Wonderland," dedicated to the 10th Anniversary of the Convent.</p>
<p>This recently established shelter has not yet developed <nobr>long-term</nobr> sponsors. With the help of RCWS, Mother Irotiida hopes to continue developing services provided by the shelter and supporting girls residing at the shelter.</p>
