<p><img src="/projects/images/krasnogorodsk2.jpg" alt="krasnogorodsky orphanage" name="krasnogorodsk" width="222" height="171" border="0" align="left">Krasnogorodsky Specialized Orphanage houses 140 children between the ages of 6 and 18 with mild disabilities. Among residents of the orphanage are 94 orphans and 45 children with disabilities. About 10% of the children have no relatives at all.</p>
<p>Children residing at the Krasnogorodsky Orphanage have been diagnosed with minor physical or mental disabilities. With the help of RCWS grants, the administration of the orphanage has been able to organize carpentry workshops for children, improve playrooms and bedrooms, and equip a gym and social rehabilitation center. Through regular meetings at the social rehabilitation center children have the opportunity to get acquainted with prospective foster families or maintain relationships with their distant<img src="/projects/images/krasnogorodsk.jpg" alt="krasnogorodsky orphanage" name="krasnogorodsk" width="221" height="186" border="0" align="right"> relatives.</p>
<p>The Krasnogorodsky Orphanage requested a $10,800 grant to purchase and install a playground for children. Most children suffer from a weak immune system and are prone to multiple infections and diseases. With the help of this playground, children would be able to expand and diversify their after school activities while developing a healthy and active lifestyle. Engaging in outdoor activities is particularly important for children with special needs. The administration of the orphanage allocated $1,100 to beautify the area with trees and bushes.</p>
<p>The orphanage receives $14,000 to $18,000 annually from the local government for maintenance of their building and the adjacent territory including all incidental repairs. These funds barely cover the costs of the repainting the walls of the orphanage. Tatiana Bodrova, RCWS Pskov representative, listed this request among the six most vital projects that need RCWS’s support in 2009. This is the second playground in the Pskov region sponsored by RCWS.</p>

<p class="column">RCWS had supported Krasnogorodsky Orphanage with the following grants:<br/> <strong>$500</strong> in 2003, <strong>$6,895</strong> in 2004, <strong>$17,586</strong> in 2006, <strong>$14,553</strong> in 2007.<br/>All reports have been submitted.</p>
