<p>Pavel has successfully completed his fourth year. He devoted a good portion of this year attending an independent study group. He used this time to prepare himself for his participation in the Russian Ministry of Education sponsored conference entitled "Problems of Adaptation and Guidance among Young Adults Leaving Orphanages."</p>

<p>On June 30, 2011, Pavel made his presentation on the subject at the conference which took place in Smolensk. Pavel devotes a great deal of his time and effort to this issue, one that he knows firsthand, and works as a volunteer helping youths such as himself who are aging out of the orphanage system. The RCWS grant has undoubtedly played a huge role in helping Pavel establish his identity. He is a successful and enthusiastic athlete and competes on the University volleyball team. In June, he will return for a fourth year as a counselor in a summer camp, where he is loved by the children and teaching staff who eagerly await his return every year.</p>

<p>Valentina successfully completed a degree in pedagogy. She proved herself to be a consistently excellent student throughout the academic year. She passed all of her courses with excellent marks. She was also very active socially and participated in weekly <nobr>clean-ups</nobr> of the campus, university conferences, and athletic tournaments. Currently, Valentina is working as a camp counselor in Yaroslav. With the stipend Valya was given, she allotted to buying clothes, food, paying for internet, course books, and printing materials for school. She is very positive and has an immense desire to do well in school if simply to prove to those who have supported her that their investment in her future was well worth it.</p>

<p id="block-quotes-2">I�m so grateful for all that you have done for me. This past year wasn�t as successful as I�d like it to have been but it was, nonetheless, a good year. Life is never without its hardships and success is dependent on how well you can overcome them.</p>
<p>Yana finished her studies with excellent marks and confirmed that she is a deserving scholarship recipient. Thanks to her scholarship, she was able to pay for all of her college courses and get a couple of steps closer to finding a job in social work because she wishes to help those in tough predicaments, very much like the one she was once in before the RCWS showed her a way out.</p>

<p>Yana is involved in a multitude of sports clubs and organizations on campus. She also often attends career conferences that feature lectures by prominent Yaroslav businessmen. This summer, she is working as a counselor at a rehabilitation camp for children called "Russ."</p><p>This past year, she had a good deal of pedagogical practice and coordinated <nobr>after-school</nobr> classes and extracurricular activities at a number of schools. She also spent time teaching at children�s correctional schools. She noted about the children that «they might seem difficult to deal with at first glance but, during class, what I realized was that they�re kind and genuinely good kids who were born into unfortunate circumstances. Because of their environment, they develop behavioral issues and lag behind in school. They have no one to help them which is why I want to be the one to inspire them to reach for more.»</p>
<p>During her trial period teaching, Yana custom made the curriculum for every class she taught which, according to her, was rather <nobr>nerve-racking</nobr> at first, especially when it came time to teaching the material to 23 students eagerly looking at her with curiosity. For her dedication to helping others and outstanding community service, Yana was voted the «2011 Student of the Year» at her university. She just returned from a children�s summer camp for orphans where she worked as a camp counselor. The camp houses 500 children and Yana oversaw a group of 42 kids between the ages of 6 and 18. Some of the children were rebellious in the beginning but, according to Yana, she and the other counselors were able to gain their trust and love in the end so that everyone would leave with new and lasting friendships. She thanks the RCWS for its support and believes that it is because of her friends at the Society that she was motivated to help others who have nowhere to turn.</p>

<p>Valentin has been a scholarship recipient for one year now. He is studying one of the most difficult majors at his university, computer science. Learning the material doesn�t always come easily to Valentin but he is extremely tenacious and diligent with his studies, and is convinced that he can overcome any impediments along the way.</p>
<p>His participation in the program has made him very much aware of his need to maintain accountability and exhibit progress so as to show those supporting him that their efforts are well worth it.</p>
<p>Valentin loves sports, cars, computers and is very active socially. He frequently attends career conferences with businessmen from the Yaroslav area. He was particularly interested in interacting with a web designer because he potentially would like to go a similar route professionally. This summer, he is working in a rehabilitation camp for children. He is very happy with the fact that, by being a scholarship recipient, he has become a member of a big friendly family of other scholarship recipients.</p>
