<h3><a name="scholarship"></a>Scholarship Program</h3>
<p>Over thirteen years ago RCWS launched a scholarship program for disadvantaged children in Russia. During this time, the number of participants has grown from 3 in the 2003–2004 academic year to 86 in 2015–2016. Currently, RCWS is supporting 120 students in the Pskov, Yaroslavl, and Moscow regions. </p>
<p>To date, the scholarship program has been enormously successful in providing a support structure for students as they transition from living in an orphanage to attending a university on their own. The scholarship recipients receive a monthly stipend for living expenses so that they could better focus on their studies. More importantly, however, they are closely guided by their mentors who are always there to listen and provide the necessary support to help the children flourish and feel cared for. Additionally, RCWS requires academic transcripts from each scholarship recipient, as well as reports on the use of the stipend to ensure accountability. Over seventy of our scholarship recipients have thus far completed their schooling and found employment.</p>

<p>The Society also sponsors an annual gathering of the students each year in Pskov and Yaroslavl. The wonderful administrators who provide us with scholarship applicants and who look after and ensure accountability from the recipients organize the day.</p>

<p>The RCWS scholarship program is preventing some of Russia’s orphans from slipping through the cracks. All graduates of the scholarship program so far have successfully found professional employment related to their studies. The latest applications received by RCWS described serious and mature youngsters who want to build a promising future. <strong>Currently, 90 students receive RCWS Scholarship Award</strong>. We are sure to report even more good news from our students in the future. We ask for your support for an initiative that has a tangible impact on children who have experienced violence, abandonment and neglect but strive to rise above.</p>

Learning how to prioritize and plan my spending responsibly took some getting used to but I quickly learned after the first month. Thank you for choosing me as one of the RCWS scholarship recipients! I wanted to also thank you for the student�s reunion celebration! I felt like even the people I saw for the first time were longtime friends who were near and dear. The performances organized by the other students were spectacular! I consider myself lucky to know there are people who want to help us, give us opportunities, encourage us to bring our dreams to life. Thank you RCWS!</p>

<h3><a name="other"></a>Additional Education Programs</h3>

<p> The Society also supports
secondary education. The St. Alexis School and
Orphanage near Yaroslavl, for example, offers rigorous
programs in liberal arts, math and science, preparing
students for university enrollment. <img src="images/russian_orphans_7 .jpg" width="270" height="200" vspace="4" align="right">Children who
are not college-bound have the opportunity to learn
trade skills through apprenticeships, while disabled
children participate in classes specially designed
to meet their needs.</p>
<p>Another example is the St. Nicholas Classical
School in Kislovodsk. The 192 students enrolled at
the school receive education in academic subjects
as well as practical skills such as computer training.
All instruction is oriented to instill values
that will help the children make positive choices
throughout their lifetime. RCWS has supported the
St. Nicholas School for several years allocating
funds for food, computer equipment, textbooks and
other supplies.</p>
