<h1>51st Petroushka Ball<br />
Celebrating 90th Anniversary of RCWS</h1>
<p>The 51st Petroushka Ball drew over 700 guests for a spirited night of celebration on February 5th, 2016 at The Plaza Hotel in New York. Both longstanding supporters and newcomers toasted to the Russian Children�s Welfare Society�s 90th birthday and rejoiced in the night�s festivities.</p><p><img src="images/petroushka_2016_2.jpg" class="imgl" width="280" alt="2016 Petroushka Ball" />The Ball was not only a uniquely elegant affair but also a surprisingly electric one, with traditional Russian and gypsy dances going well into the morning hours to the sound of vibrant folk and balalaika music. Among the highlights of the night was a set of performances from Metropolitan Opera�s baritone Rodion Pogossov and soprano Olga Mykytenko. Rodion delighted guests with a theatrical rendition of the song Soliloquy from Carousel in addition to a riveting piece from Rossini�s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Olga dazzled with an aria from Pagliacci and a Tchaikovsky�s romance before joining forces with Rodion for a stirring duet from Pagliacci.</p>
<p>The Petroushka Ball has made a tradition of featuring two distinguished orchestras — The Lester Lanin Orchestra in the Grand Ballroom coupled with the Barynia Balalaika Orchestra in the Terrace Room. This year, the Moscow Gypsy Army, led by Vasily Romani, joined the roster for a series of thrilling performances.</p>

<p>RCWS would also like to thank the 51st Petroushka Ball Junior Committee <nobr>Co-Chairs</nobr>: Tatiana Sarandinaki Kadaria, Aleksei Brown, Katia Sokoloff, Maria Ross, Adrian Fekula, Kyrill Firshein and Kate Litvinov. Their help was instrumental in making the 51st Petroushka Ball such a success.</p>
<p>All net proceeds from the 51st Petroushka Ball will be directed towards RCWS� charitable programs. Among them are <a href="../programs_scholarship.htm" target="_blank">educational scholarships for orphans</a> (currently 86 students), <a href="../programs_medical.htm" target="_blank">medical treatment</a> for children with severe facial deformities (annually over 200 little patients receive surgeries), assistance to orphanages, rehabilitation programs for children with special needs, a "Yelka" (New Year and Christmas tree) party in Moscow for over 1,000 disadvantaged children visiting from many areas of Russia; and other vital programs.</p>
<p>We thank our guests, sponsors, Committee, volunteers and all the supporters and are looking forward to seeing everybody at the 52nd Petroushka Ball in February 2017.</p>
