<p class="greycopy">Introduced to RCWS by a friend and colleague, Ted was immediately moved by the opportunity to become more involved in a country where he recognizes a growing and urgent need. Baker & McKenzie is a global law firm and a passionately collaborative community of 60 nationalities. Baker & McKenzie was the first international law firm to open an office in Moscow in 1989. Together with other lawyers at Baker & McKenzie Ted wants to be more involved in the life of Russia and help its beautiful children to grow and achieve their full potential.</p></td>

<p><strong>What motivated you to participate in the ING NYC Marathon as a part of the RCWS team?</strong><br/>
I am a lawyer by profession and one of my passions is seeking justice for those who are suffering injustices and need a voice on their behalf. I work with <nobr>inner-city</nobr> children in Dallas who are mostly raised in impoverished communities and are subject to many social injustices, such as poor education, lack of basic opportunities and neglect. Similarly, running for RCWS will give me a chance to bring attention to RCWS’ mission of improving the lives of disadvantaged children in Russia and raise the much needed financial support for RCWS’ outstanding programs.</p>
<p><strong>What role does running play in your life?</strong><br/>
Running reminds me of how blessed I am just to be able to run. Having participated in several Dallas running events, the White Rock Half Marathon, the Friends of Katy Trail Run, and the April 2010 Big D Texas Marathon, I appreciate these events for their capacity to bring people together, build community, and support causes larger than the run itself. I most appreciate the fact that running is accessible to people of all ages, abilities, beliefs, backgrounds, and bank accounts.</p>
<p><strong>Why is it important to help children at risk in Russia?</strong><br/>
When we look at issues in today’s society, the need for action is urgent and clear; tomorrow may be too late. Children are the most vulnerable members in any society, but in Russia too many children are born into families unable to provide material necessities, care, and affection. Over <strong>700,000 orphans</strong> live in Russia and UNICEF estimates that 95% of these children are social orphans with at least one living parent who has given the child to state care. Healthcare is not affordable and for most families government resources are limited.</p>
<p>Among its many programs, RCWS raises funds for Russian orphanages that are underfunded, understaffed and overpopulated with children. RCWS also provides social and medical support to disadvantaged children through initiatives like collaboration with the Russian Aid Foundation entitled<strong> "Give Beauty Back to the Children"</strong> that raises funds for the Moscow Center for Maxillofacial Surgery to treat children with facial deformities. While I strive in my small way to provide a voice for the voiceless, RCWS works on a much grander scale to give underprivileged children an opportunity to pursue their dreams without limitations.</p>
