Gelobter #2</title> </head> <body> <p><b style="COLOR: black; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff66">Michael Gelobter</b> is presently Assistant Professor for environmental policy in the Graduate Department of Public Administration at the Newark Campus of Rutgers University. He also serves as the Academic Coordinator for the Community-University Consortium for Regional Environmental Justice (CUCREJ), working with community-based environmental justice organizations and academics in New Jersey, New York, and Puerto Rico. Dr. Gelobter's prior academic appointments include 3 years as the first Director of the Program on Environmental Policy at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. He did his doctoral research at the Energy and Resources Group of the University of California, Berkeley on the race and income distribution of air pollution in the United States, and has also written more broadly about environmental justice, lead poisoning, global warming, sustainability, and the relationship between environmental protection and tourism in developing countries. His activities in New York City include work on community-based models of environmental protection, particularly the Youth Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, and international environmental justice. Prior to teaching at Columbia, Dr. Gelobter was Director of Environmental Quality and Assistant Commissioner for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. He has also served as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow with the Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. His present appointments include membership on the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council where, until recently, he chaired the Subcommittee on Air and Water; membership on the Clean Air Act Federal Advisory Committee; and the Board of Redefining Progress, a think tank devoted to reshaping America's economic measures of progress.</p> <p>Originally found at <font color="blue">http://www.crp.cornell.edu/thinningcities/newbio/gelobter.htm</font></p> </body> </html>
