Program Description:
Many companies are interested in new approaches to cost control, performance and
customer satisfaction in facilities management. It is often considered difficult
to achieve "apples to apples" comparisons due to differences in industry,
geography, space usage and/or "corporate culture."
Consequently, some benchmarking studies do not result in actual improvements, due
in part to skepticism based on these differences. Findings suggest, however, that
management approaches affect results more than underlying infrastructural or business
differences.
The session will present examples from numerous companies to illustrate methods of
analyzing cross-industry benchmarking data. Attendees will also learn ways to establish
standards for internal performance measurement.

1. Identify challenges to successful cross-industry benchmarking
2. Develop standards to screen irrelevant or misleading data
