managers from a number of leading companies gathered on December 6, 2000 to
exchange business information and ideas, in a cooperative workshop known as <b>�Facilities
Forum.� </b>Hosted by BASF at
its North American headquarters in Mount Olive, the session was managed by <b>Guerin Associates, Inc.,</b> a consulting firm that specializes in real
estate and facilities management in the Millington section of Long Hill
Township.</font></td>

Corporation</b> met to share data, ideas and experience on a number of
current management issues. Guerin Associates presented awards to overall
�best performers,� and a number of attendees gave presentations on how
their companies have improved performance while lowering costs.</font></td>

Facilities Forum employs a
technique known as <b>�benchmarking�</b>
to promote superior management approaches. This is an increasingly popular
way to evaluate a firm�s performance, and spot major improvement
opportunities. Participating firms pool detailed operating information for
objective analysis, often by a third party such as a management consultant.
Methods associated with higher performance --or lower cost-- are
identified and shared among the study group. In this way each participating company has an opportunity to learn
from all the others. Confidentiality is maintained by use of �masking
codes� (such as letters), rather than company names. This encourages an
open learning atmosphere, while protecting individual identities in reports.
In benchmarking terminology, consistently successful methods are
called �best practices.� Firms with outstanding overall performance are
known as �best performers.�</font>
