WORK EXPERIENCE

1990-2000 -- SPSS Inc., Chicago IL -- Master Software Engineer

* For the last year and a half, I helped develop SmartViewer Web Server, 
a Java-based system for publishing SPSS tables and charts as well as 
other documents to the Web.  I wrote parts of the administrative interface,
and wrote a SDK for third parties to write object beans for pubishing
to the system. 

* Most of my time at SPSS was spent on QI Analyst, a real-time statistical
quality control product for Windows.  As team leader through several 
releases, I was responsible for the overall architecture (emphasizing 
modularity, code re-use, and good O-O design), designed major portions of the 
UI, implemented the core graphic and statistical engines, and assisted in
project planning and development decisionmaking.

* I served as a team member on a number of other SPSS products, and helped
lay out the basic design of the rewritten interactive graphics engine
used in the flagship SPSS for Windows product.

1983 - 2000 -- AIRS (now Instec) Inc., Lisle IL -- Senior Software Engineer

I was the architect and a lead programmer for RaterCalc, an insurance rating
system for the PC, through several versions.  The product required separate 
versions per year, per state, per customer; ultimately I designed a 
resource-driven rating engine and resource editors to manage this complexity.
These engines, rather than particular customized raters, are now the 
chief products of the company. 

I also served as a sysadmin for this startup company, and wrote the first
user manuals for the product.
