The Verdurians have not exactly been seeking this. After all, they live
on another planet and as they say, Řo eu gruřî esë-- "It's not any of my turnips." But they have been asked to establish diplomatic relations with several nations on the planet they call Oikumene and we, less euphoniously, the earth.

The Verdurian embassy was established in 1998 in Linköping, or Bruramérs,

under the genial direction of Ihano Claivuranei Atirey.

The picture on the embassy's page, though pretty, is of Linköping, not Verduria.

The inhabitants of Sango Jingo speak DiLingo, the guttural utteral. They
are ten-dimensional beings but waste 6 or 7 of them. I think the
philosopher Mick Jagger had something to say about that.

As a concession to the consonant-cluster-averse Tigerians, the king has appointed as ambassador the worthy Letidan Capirei Gunoro.

Although all visitors to Virtual Verduria are welcome, some have distinguished themselves for their extraordinary interest in Almea, Verduria, or the Verdurian language,
which Le Monde has declared to be a futilité absolue [qui] ne manque pas de charme.

Lon er eglér (praise and honor) to these drukî Verdúrë:

The original D&D group who, many years ago now, first took Verdurian names, trod the roads of Verduria, annoyed the King, and angered the mysterious powers of Erruk.
Chief among these was our dungeonmaster, Chris Vargas, known to his friends as "God," and of course Martine, who learned quite a bit of an earlier version of Verdurian.

Mattias Persson, of Uppsala, Sweden, who was the first to
write to me with questions about Almea, especially about its writing systems,
which are much more interesting as a result.

Markus Bergqvist and Helena Svedberg, the King's Man and Woman
in Linköping (what is it about Sweden?) --
LARP enthusiasts, students of the Verdurian language, and
all-around crechî zevî (great folks).

Francesco Felici, whose name shall be unperishing, for he was
the first on the face of Oikumene, besides its creator, to master the Verdurian speech.

What is by now a long list of people who wrote to me, out of the blue, in Almean languages. (I think the first was John Minot.)

Philip Newton, who has subjected many of my languages to careful scrutiny; he's surely one of the few inhabitants of this planet who can find typos or morphological errors in Cadhinor texts-- in the original alphabet. Philip's page, among other things, contains some nifty applets for handling inflection in Almean languages.

Learning Verdurian (and other Almean languages) [To top]

For anyone who wants to actually learn the language, a grammar and thematic dictionary of Verdurian are on the web.

The Effect-Counter-Effect story that's available in English here
is also available in Verdurian.

You can download some of the fonts I've created. These are binary TrueType files
for Windows.
