 In the Historical Atlas you mention that the people of
 Qaraus, like the Cuezi, had early contact with the
 ilii. But this area, unlike Eretald, seems to remain
 fairly backward throughout Almean history. Why is this?

<p>Lack of rivals, mostly.  Though Qaraumia is temperate and
fertile, it's not very suitable for grazing, so the Lenani
people to the west were never interested in it.  The
Dhekhnami weren't interested because there weren't enough
Qaraus.  So the Qaraus were pretty much left alone,
without anything much pressuring them to advance.</i>
