Diehl is based on a secondary source of unknown reliability. Such a marriage is certain - the quesztion is whether the Eleanor associated with it is correct. The problem comes down to how her husband, who was born and died in PA, was able to meet and marry a woman who can from the opposite side of the state from the border with PA. There is no other Eleanor - either born a Temple or previously married to one - known in Van Wert Co. at any time who might be an alternative for the daughter of John and Rebecca, so this association remains tentative but requires proof such as marriage paperwork naming her parents.<br>And of course, the problem may lie with the association of Samuel Diehl with PA. That's a possibility because, in 1870, Samuel Diehl, ae 24, was a farmer in Van Wert Co.,OH. At the time, he was married to Lucinda and had two sons under the age of 3. This Samuel Diehl was said to be from IN, but that was oin the right side of the state to be in Van Wert Co. Sadly, things get fuzzier in 1880, when Samuel Diehl, ae 43, b PA, was enulerated as a farm laborer in Willshire, Van Wert, OH. His wife, however, was Nancy, ae 25 (son not a confusion with Elenaor Temple), but the children were Minnie R, Jenna H, John A. and Mary E. Clearly not the same Samuel Diehl as in 1870, but just as clearly, another problem with identifying Eleanor as his wife.
