Her cemetery marker gives her surname as Ball, but a Carter genealogy gives her surname as Crawford. Her obituary, which never mentions her given name, said she was the daughter of David Crawford of MS who came to Ft. Worth in 1871 for his health. Crawford died shortly after arriving in Ft. Worth and settign up the first furniture store in the city, Crawford & Davis. His wife subsequently married Frank Ball, and it appears Ruby took the name Ball as a result.
