He was a second lieutenant in the 3rd Worcester County Regiment on 9 Jul 1776 serving under General Sullivan in the battle of Long Island.  Later, he was the paymaster of that regiment and promoted to first lieutenant.  He served through the rest of the war with General Sullivan, and finally appeared at the alarm of 27 Jul-8 Aug 1780 in Rhode Island.
