Taken to the Institute Hospital in Atlanta, GA, where he evntually died. <br>The Confederate States Medical and Surgical Journal says he was a farmer who was "enfeebled by previous wounds; wounded May 8, admitted May 9, 1864." His wound was "...by a conoidal ball, which entered just in front of the left ear, passed upward and forward and emerged just above the right eye. On the next day, he was admitted to the Institute Hospital in Atlanta. He was perfectly rational, with no constitutional disturbance, could see but little with the right eye, and said that the vision of the left wqs lost from the time of the reception of the injury. On May 11th, his mind was wandering, but on the 16th, he was rational, with some appetite. From the 18th to the 26th, he was unconscious, but seemed, at times, to understand when spoken to very loudly. He was feeble and emaciated and discharged feces involuntarily; the wound suppurated freely. He died on Jun 8th of asthenia." The cause of death in lay terms was weakness and loss of strength, unsurprising given the wound.
