However, the latter association, shown here, still requires proof. The Luman Shurtleff genealogy gives an unclear clue that this might not be the case, since following her name is the parenthetical (Willie Cox), which may mean her father's name, or her mother's, but it is simply not understood. This conclusion is based on a couple of factors, not the least of which is her age, location in GA, and the problem that Delia was not known anywhere prior to her 1909 marriage, that Lucy was not known after the 1900 census, and that in 1930, she was enumerated next door to Arthur H. Temple(s) and his family. She is apparently closely related to Arthur, but was thought to be either a sister or cousin due to the 1930 census. Her status as a cousin could not be ruled out, because the families of John Andrew Temples's brothers are unidentified. It seems more likely, however, that Lucy and Delia are the same persons, but this requires proof. It is not clear that Valentine was a son of the Vanhooses who lived two doors away, but surely that was the route by which Almedia met him.<p>Another Almeda Temples exists, and she remained in MS, married to William F. Medical records said simply he was in Company A, 2nd AR Regiment, which indicates he was in the infantry. Served as the first sergeant until his death. He was ill with wounded in battle by a perforating gunshot fracture of the skull on 8 May 1864 in Rocky Face Ridge, GA.<sup><a href="sources.htm#131612" class="lnk">131612</a></sup> He was wounded at Rocky Face Ridge, GA, "by a conoidal ball, which entered just in front of the left ear, passed upward and forward and emerged just above the right eye. On the next day, he was admitted to the Institute Hospital in Atlanta. He was perfectly rational, with no constitutional disturbance, could see but little with the right eye, and said that the vision of the left wqs lost from the time of the reception of the injury. On May 11th, his mind was wandering, but on the 16th, he was rational, with some appetite. From the 18th to the 26th, he was unconscious, but seemed, at times, to understand when spoken to very loudly. He was feeble and emaciated and discharged feces involuntarily; the wound suppurated freely. He died on Jun 8th of asthenia." M.V. died on 8 June 1864 at the age of 24.<sup><a href="sources.htm#131612" class="lnk">131612</a>,<a href="sources.htm#131613" class="lnk">131613</a></sup> Veteran's headstone in Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, GA, may be only a memorial.
