For instance, John's son Amos - enumerated in 1870, was probably Anise and female in 1860 when he was enumerated as James.  In 1870, his wife was Martha, but his children do not line up for him as well as they do for his brother James.  Much work needs to be done to clarify the families of John and his brother James.<p>He is referred to as Colonel, but it was not clear whether that was honorary or whether he actually served.<p>His parents were both from NC.<p>It is not clear that he married Sallie Robinson or Annie Tolliver, since only their marriage license information has been found, but that in itself is not proof that they didn't marry. It was under this name and service # that his widow, Zora Adell Temples, applied for his veteran's headstone fur burial in Wheatland, CA.<p>Then, as John W. Temple, he enlisted on 11 Aug 1940 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA, as a private in the Coast Artillery Corps or Army Mine Planter Service, for the Panama Canal Department.  He claimed residence in Polk Co., GA.  Discharged 12 Oct 1943.  Service # 14006873.  Pension # 355 41 57.<p>In Feb 1945, medical records indicate he had served between 5 and 10 years, putting his enlistment as early as 1935 and late as 1940, but that needs to be tempered by his being only 15 in 1935.  So, his enlistment date, at its earliest was about 1936 or 1937, as shown. When he enlisted, he was in AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, or TN.  He served in the field artillery.  He was admitted to treatment at the Fort Sill, OK, station hospital for acute nasopharygitis in Feb 1945. Treated and released back to duty in Feb 1945.  Service # 14006873.  He lived in Polk Co., GA in 1940.<sup><a href="sources.htm#1006" class="lnk">1006</a></sup>  John died on 2 May 1961 at the age of 40 in Colusa, Colusa, CA.<sup><a href="sources.htm#148" class="lnk">148</a>,<a href="sources.htm#7566" class="lnk">7566</a></sup>  Buried in Wheatland Cemetery, Wheatland, CA.
