Tempel when he married Maria Ritter, so this conclusion may be in doubt. The thing that unites them is their names in the marriage records of their son, Bion Temple - his unique name was the key. He enlisted for 3 months' service on 14 Oct 1856.<p>A miscellaneous record indicates that he received scrip # 1516 in the amount of $ 25, but the date in the transcription is very misleading, as it said that was 29 Nov 1801, which predated Lewis and Clark. More likely, the date was 1891, and was a typo.<p>His widow later applied for a pension on the basis of his wartime service.
