His father's estate papers make his middle name Augustine, but he also appears with Augustus.<p>Although undocumented, he may have had a wife before Sarah Oldham. The problem is the dates given in different sources for his son John Washington's birth year. All sources, from census to death records and secondary genealogies give a date before William married Sarah. The problem concluding that, though, is William's age - since he was apparently only 19 when he married Sarah. Had his son John been born as early as the 1838 or 1839 cited in the records, William would have been only 13 or 14. While undeniably biologically possible, it is extremely unlikely.
