I must inform you although strangers, whom I and my brother married, (viz) I married one of the family of Taylors who came from Didcot not far from Reading in Berkshire, my brother Thomas married one of the family of Jefferys from Wiltshire some of which family when my son Thomas was in your kingdom was living at Mumsham (indistinct) & Whitley common (viz) Robert Jefferys at the former & Edward & Thomas at the latter. Fate of William's first wife and children listed in the 1800 census is discussed below under paragraph "William and Sarah". Dorcas is described in William's 1816 will as his loving wife, and he left to her all his land, stock and cattle to raise his children, William (born 1803) and Daniel. (It is unknown if these children were by Dorcas or previous wife.) The 1810 Census listed William as 26 to 45 years old so he apparently died young.
