Temple, said to be a friendly and God fearing man, spent some time as a hobo. Victor was a true hobo and not a bum. When he came for a visit (stay) he insisted on working whether it was for a few days or several weeks. I know some of the cousins he stayed with were farmers and he went to the fields and worked as though he was a hired hand. He believed he should earn his keep and not take advantage of his host. He rode the freight trains as his means of transportation.
He settled in CA because of the welfare system there, and ended his days supported by the state. However, the family knows of no marriage or children for this Victor, despite the similarity of birth and death dates with a Victor Temple who married Edna Wood.
Didrick Fegley recalled "The last time I saw him was sometime in the mid to late 1950’s. He said he was getting to old to travel and quit coming for his visits but still wrote to the families until his death in 1968."
He probably never had a place to call home until he started staying in the home for the aged in California. If he shows up in any census, it probably would not be until 1950 or 1960.
The 1940 census, he was Victor Carl Temple, b 1885 MO. He was not found in 1920 or 1930.
His marriage to Edna Lodema Wood is circumstantial based on CA death records, as he claimed to be single in 1940.
