Her engagement announcement in the Fort Wayne newspaper said she was the daughter of Peter Temple, but gave nothing more about her. Most of what is presently known, then, comes after her marriage from the 1930 census. There are only two known Peters Temple whom might be her father. The first was Peter William Temple and his wife Alice Cummins of IN, who married in 1903. The second is Peter Temple of Garrett, IN, in 1902, known from the death record of a child in 1902. Peter's wife's maiden name was Witten. Either Peter is a candidate based on rough location and approximate timing, but neither candidate fits the birth place claims by Velma in the 1930 census.
