In 1900, he made no claim for his parentage.<p>He would appear to be the son of Thomas Temple, who died in Afton, IA in 1879. He might have had an earlier marriage to Frances Furney. There were only two Thomases b 1857 OH in the 1860 census, and neither is a perfect fit for him. There were no Thomases in 1860 with such a birth date in IA.
