Recording his birth Oct. 13, 1787. Nothing known about his parents of his birth place some think he was born in Georgia, some Kentucky, and other in Virginia. Have not been able to find any record in any of the states. He; removed with his parents in 1793 to Hancock County, Georgia; removed in early manhood to Tennessee.<br>2) The second record found was where he served in the War of 1812 in the Tennessee Militia under the command of Colonel Cheatham.<br>3) He married Oct. 2, 1817 to Mary Lee, by a clergyman named Adkinson. Mary born in Virginia 1799, and removed as a child with her parents to Tennessee when a small girl. Her father was a second cousin to General Robert E. Lee. Mary lost contact of her parents. Have not learned if they died in Tennessee or went back to Virginia. The Lee family was formerly wealthy, and there are lots of books on the Lee family in state libraries. Anyone with plenty of money and time could trace this record.<br>4) Roderick Temple was a farmer and moved from Williams Co. to Davidson Co. TN. about 1843 and lived there until his death in1849. He and family had planed to move to Arkansas. before he got sick. After his death Mary and the younger part of the family moved to Crawford Co. AR. and settled in the flatrock community, later moved near Rudy, AR., where she lived the rest of her life. She died July 30, 1884 at the age of 85 years. She may have lived with one of her grandson's (William A. Temple), she helped to raise, at the time of her death. She came to AR. about 1850. All twelve of her children were born in Williams Co., TN. He enlisted in the Brunswick Grays on 2 Jul 1861 in Richmond, VA. This unit became Company G, 21st Virginia Infantry. The unit was sent to western VA where it was assigned to Gen Stonewall Jackson's Second Brigade. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 28 Feb 1863. During fighting at Gettysburg, around Culp's Hill (abt 1 Jul 1863), Roderick received a wound which led to his capture, and eventual amputation of his foot 3 inches above the ankle. Transferred to Fort Delaware, he was exchanged and sent to his home in White Plains, Brunswick, VA. He wrote a letter from White Plains in Dec 1864 to Confederate authorities to get an artificial foot so he could give further service to the Confederacy. The response was negative and he was considered incapacitated for service. He died on 7 January 1865 at the age of 25.<sup><a href="sources.htm#121347" class="lnk">121347</a>,<a href="sources.htm#121348" class="lnk">121348</a></sup> He had contracted consumption, probably while captured, and this was his official cause of death.
