The Rev. Arthur E. Harriman performed the ceremony, during which the woman was raised on pillows. Just as the minister was about to name them man and wife she fainted. It required several minutes to restore her.<br>"The couple were to have been married June 12, but last Monday Miss McDonald was taken suddenly ill. Physicians were summoned, but she sank rapidly. Temple was soon verging on nervous prostration. He urged his sweetheart to marry him. At first she tried to dissuade him, but he finally won her consent and a quick wedding was arranged. He was a widower."<br>It is not clear, despite the implication, that she died at that moment, and the indefinite antecedent - "He was a widower" my be meant to indicate she died, but it could also refer to the death of his first wife. The reason that is so is James was the father of Dorothy Adeline Temple, born in 1908, but he had no other wife until 1916. It would seem Mary lingered on possibly long enough to be the mother of Dorothy Adeline Temple and Douglas James Temple and perhaps three more children. Moreover, there is the marriage to Charles H. Snowden on 29 Sep 1925 that appears to have been the former wife of James Temple.<br>Mary's fate is unresolved and affects James, at least two children, and possibly Charles Smwoden. Known only from the MA marriage index, so Temple may not be her maiden name.
