His placement in this his family comes from Rise of the Temples, but his placement and timing are in doubt. ME death records say he was the son of Stephen and Alice (not Olive) Temple Everything depends on what is a death record transcript that has errors. The facts in his death record are as follows. He was b 5 Feb 1841, died 23y5m5d later, but that death date was also recorded as 5 May 1884. All of these cannot be true. The third digit of his death year is the problem. Some interpret the year to be 1884, hence they put his birth in 1860. It appears his birth date was calculated from his death date, but the 1841 year means the death date could not be the 1884 one. The records are also misleading, in that he could not have been the son of Stephen and Alice (Keen) Temple, because they were not married any longer when Joshua was born in 1841. Curiously, though, if the 1841 death date was actually his death date, and his age was subtracted from the 1841 date, then Alice Keen could be his mother, and his resulting birth date of 1816 would be compatible with her marriage to Stephen Temple and their other child. The facts are incompatible with each other, and his placement as the son of Stephen and Olive Temple may rest on the transcriber misinterpreting the dates, age and direction to calculate. If, however, his death date actually was the 1884 date, and his age was correct, then his birth year was very wrong and he was born in 1860. That would make his parents Stephen and Olive Temple, and the transcriber may have mistakenly calculated the birth, and misread his mother's name (Alice for Olive).
