He died on 6 April 1910 at the age of 55 in Meridian, Lauderdale, MS.<sup><a href="sources.htm#23466" class="lnk">23466</a>,<a href="sources.htm#27200" class="lnk">27200</a>,<a href="sources.htm#107850" class="lnk">107850</a></sup>  Jailer Bob Temple was shot and killed by a prisoner who succeeded in securing another jailer's pistol during a scuffle at the Lauderdale County Jail. Other officers shot and mortally wounded the prisoner. As the prisoner lay dying, a maddened crowd of nearly 2000 people took him from the officers and hanged him from a nearby telephone pole.<br>For reasons unknown, but possibly related to his burial date, his gravestone says he died on 13 Apr 1910.  Buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Meridian, MS.  The children shown are based on census records.  The family gravestone in Prismatic, MS, indicates two children that do not fit with the ones listed - Ethelle B. Temple (29 Nov 1880 - 12 Oct 1886) and Willy Mae Temple (28 Nov 1882 - 12 Oct 1886). The reason of the discrepancy is not clear. Also, it appears he might have been the son of Robert H. and Sarah (Watson) Temple, and that Katherine was his unknown first wife, before he married Ruth Naomi Crooks - all this based on birth and marriage dates, and location in OH.
