Research by Edie Youts, granddaughter of John Newton Temple, put together a convincing case that John Newton appears as John E.N. in 1860. The basis of the reasoning is that the "E.N." was actually a phonetic, dialectic, "N." Phonetic spelling was common in the 1860 census. Onamastic analysis further clinches the case that John E.N. Temple was John Newton Temple, based on the names of children and related data.<p>His parents were both from TN. His granddaughter, Edie Temple Youts, said he was a cousin to Mamie (Temple) Wheeler and Martha Temple (daughters of Joseph William Temple and granddaughters of Hartwell Temple). She also told me, "Martha and Mamie visited John N and Ellie in LaPorte, TX in Harris County before John N died August 6, 1937. Martha recounts this visit to see Cousin John and Ellie in a letter I have from her before her death. Somehow they are related or they would have not traveled that distance to see them or refer to them as cousins.!"<p>Her further research revealed "my deceased Cousin Martha Temple saying that her father was Joseph William Temple and that her grandfather was named Hartwell Temple. Listed on your site, under surnames list, you will see John S. and Joseph William as ½ brothers with Hartwell Temple as their father."<p>He may have been related Newton J. and Angelette A.
