It may be where he was buried, but that requires proof. Research by Jim Thompson showed he died of fever in Central America. Middle name is from his father's will.<p>Jim Thompson's research revealed: "John seems to have been a fortune hunter. When Nancy died he packed up the family and moved to Coahoma County, Mississippi perhaps looking for gold. He did not stay long. He disappears for awhile ending up practicing medicine in Iowa. The younger children were left in the care on the oldest son, William Fox Temple. William dies suddenly setting off a frantic search for Dr. Temple. There is discussion about returning the children to the Cresap grandparents. Dr. Temple shows up in Coahoma County just in time to reclaim his children. The next we hear of John Hancock Temple is the report of his death of a fever in Central America. He was there with his children. He had not remarried. At the time an American adventurer, William Walker, was the president/ruler of Nicaragua and was recruiting colonists from the U.S. to come down and support his cause. It ends badly. The children are evacuated by the U.S. Navy. Aboard the USS St. Mary they travel to Havana. One of the daughters (Louisa Jane) meets and marries a ship's captain and the family moves to Massachusetts. The Temples of West Virginia kept up a correspondence with this branch of the family until the last granddaughter died in the early 1940s."
