Grove Tisdale, who has been at the county farm for the past six or seven years, was stabbed int eh abdomen, and John Templd, who has been there about the same length of time, now languishes in the county jail at Oregon, accused of murder. The two men engaged in a trivial quarrel Saturday evening [6 Dec 1902] while Tisdale was doing his chores at the barnd, ending in his knocking Temple down. Temple went to the house and complained to teh superintendent who told him to go to his room and he would look into the matter, but instead he went to the barnyard and lay in wait. As Tisdale approached, a man darted from a secluded spot, thrust a knife into his abdomen and gave it a murderous side swing that left a circular wound about six inches in length and almost completely disembowling his victim. The assassin escaped in the darkness, but there is little room to doubt the bent and stoop-shouldered form ot Temple. The assault was witnessed by a farm hand who gave the alarm. The superintendent found Temple in his room contented and innocent to all appearance, comfortably seated in a rocking chair studying his Bible. He upbraided him for not coming to his room a half hour before when he was told to, and Temple insisted that he did. When asked what he ahd done to Tisdale, he replied that he had not seen him and wanted to know if he was hurt. The superintendent asked to see his knife and was shown an old one as dull as a hoe. Search brought forth fromt he bottom of his trunk the muderous knife, a small one, though sharp as a razor. Tisdale lingered until Saturday night, when he died. He comes of good family, and was a familiar figure about Oregon for years. Temple is about 71 years old, and around Forreston where he resided for years was considered a public nuisance, always in some petty fracas."<br>From the Boone County Republican, 27 Jan 1903, p. 1: "Guilty of Murder.
