John was in Sadsbury Township, Chester Co., PA in 1835 because his children, Thomas and Elizabeth were being schooled by the county. It was determined that the family was too poor to pay tuition in the private schools (public schools came a few years later to Chester County.) In the 1837 and 1839 tax lists, John Temple and Thomas Temple (tanner) are taxed as inmates-- married landless men. In 1838 they are also taxed as inmates. In 1840, a John and a Thomas Temple are listed in the Chester Co., Census in East Caln Twp, However, this John does not match the children for John and Hannah. In 1847, John bought land from James Yearsley and his wife Susanna--, and in 1848, he bought another parcel of land from John Yearsley, apparently adjoining the first. This land was along the Turnpike, in the village of Midway. By 1853, this land was considered to be in Valley Township, according to the deed selling the land. This land was sold in 1853 to settle the estate of John Temple. At that time, Hannah was in Union Co., Ohio presumably with her minor children and with Elizabeth and James Yearsley. George and Thomas were still in Chester Co., PA.<p>Henry G. Thomas was the guardian of John's minor children after John died. Info from LDS film # 0517068, Copes notes on Chester County.
